Okay two questions. First on the shaving, did Chad buy you a shave somewhere or do it himself? Second, since I'm sure other are curious what exactly do you mean RAW?
He got me a professional shave by a barber. It’s very hard to find in California because of our strict health codes. Needless to say, I really enjoyed the shave. My face is so smooth! Highly recommended if you can find someone in your area…just make sure they use disposable blades to eliminate risk of pathogen transmission.
Here’s the Wikipedia page for RAW. When your digital camera takes a photo, it flattens all the digital information into an image file (like JPG or PNG). All the extra information your camera has about the image is lost in this flattening process, whereas RAW images retain everything.
Because RAW images contain all this extra photo-sensor data, the image has a much larger colour gamut. This means I can tweak exposure, contrast, vibrance, colors with much more dramatic results and less artifacts.
It also means my photos are four to six times bigger files, which makes my camera lag as it tries to write the files to memory. Which is why I don’t shoot in RAW very often.
What camera do you use? I see some of the pictures you post and am incredibly jealous at the seemingly perfect white balance and lighting!
I use the Sony NEX-5. I like it better than the Nikons and Cannon DSLRs I’ve used because of it’s smaller form-factor. The NEX is so smart, it feels like its impossible to take a bad photo. (Especially since it can take up to 9 photos per second). It performs amazingly well in low-light situations, and takes spectacular video. Highly recommended for anyone who always wants perfectly crisp and clear photos.
Two questions: first, did you decorate/paint your apartment yourself? I like the color scheme and overall look, from what I've seen. And secondly, can you find your doppelganger (both in looks and personality) and send him to me so I can marry him?
The apartment is jointly decorated by Chad and myself. I picked the Blue/Grey colour for the walls and Chad picked the (very pretty) orange accent wall.
We’ve both contributed small pieces to the apartment. Chad picked out a Bar from Crate & Barrel, and has a Jackelope taxidermy at the front door. I picked out the coffee table, our new tree and just bought this NYC Subway Sign for the living room.
We still need to get a couch since my original idea was too big for our apartment…and we’d like to get dark-wood floors to replace the current white linoleum (yuck).
It’s the un-released successor of my Barcelonia theme.
I wanted to call it “Remember Print?” because it was going to use more dramatic magazine layouts; automatically making pull quotes, wrapping text around images, and using polygonal text boundaries instead of the usual square.
During development I realized that most tumblrs (even mine) used too many photos to make a magazine-style layout work. There’s just not enough text. So I axed most of the magical, text-shaping features, and left it in it’s current state.
I’m going to try and make a collage-y theme, that arranges posts like irregular Tetris pieces and alternates between one, three and five columns.
